Tea is an ideal fall comfort and Mandy and Kelsey have found some great ways to enjoy it. Also, if you have made some wonderful Pot Barley Soup from the Fall 2012 Edition of the magazine, here are your mason jar labels.
It’s often said that the best things in life are the ones stumbled upon accidentally. One story about the discovery of tea confirms this. Almost 4,500 years before Canadians were first sipping the steamy beverage, a rogue tea leaf fell into a bowl of hot water belonging to Chinese Emperor Shen Nung. You could say one sip, and he was hooked.
It seems the experience of tea is contagious. Today, whole enterprises are devoted to the flavour-infused drink—and for good reason. Next to water, it’s the number one drink in the world.
Just look at Cuppa T, established in the heart of the Cathedral area in Regina. With over 100 selections, this quaint shop makes the timeless drink trendy once again.
Born and raised in Regina, owner Jule Gilchrist opened up shop six years ago with the goal of sharing her love of tea with Saskatchewan. With that in mind, Cuppa T is completely free-trade and gluten-free. Gilchrist’s selections are loose-leaf teas, meaning the flavour quality is superior to bagged teas because the leaves’ essential oils are still intact.
Steep two heaping teaspoons of loose-leaf tea in hot water, then strained over ice. The perfect go-to drink for quenching one’s thirst on a hot harvest day.
Wrap yourself in a crocheted afghan blanket and enjoy the crisp fall air near a bonfire with a hot mug of Canadian Maple tea from Cuppa T.
Whether it’s hot or cold, sipped or slurped, tea is here to stay.
