We are thrilled to announce that Lionel and Michelle Hughes were each awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal on February 9, 2013 in Yorkton, SK. Here is how the award read:
"In honour of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's sixtieth year on the throne, I am pleased to present you with the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal. Through your contributions to those around you, you have well reflected the values and caring of our monarch. In doing, you have helped keep Canada great."
Lionel and Michelle each received their own medal. Lionel's award read as follows:
"In 1998, hoping to share the lure and lore of their province, Lionel Hughes and his wife, Michelle, created Saskatchewan's first regional magazine. His rare insights into prairie life, commanding journalistic skills and entrepreneurial spirit, have helped make Prairies North an award-winning international publication."
Michelle's award reads as follows:
"Equal partner with her husband, Lionel, in the family business of creating and publishing Saskatchewan's first regional magazine, entrepreneur and businesswoman Michelle Hughes's uniquely creative gifts and abilities have helped make Prairies North an award-winning global publication."
Those of us who read the magazine and who work for or with Lionel and Michelle can see why they would be so deserving of this recognition. We couldn't be happier for them. The incredible dedication it takes to continue to serve the province in this way for the last 15 years shows that in many respects they are great Canadians.
Join us in congratulating them on this very special occasion.
