Culture Days Article by Danica Lorer
Danica Lorer, from Langham, SK takes up the Culture Days challenge to become a community reporter during Culture Days 2013. She journals in words and photos her journey to numerous celebrations including North Battleford, Dalmeny, The Museum of Antiquities, Wanuskewin, Saskatoon and Rosthern. From her travels come fascinating discoveries of hidden Saskatchewan treasures. She tells of vintage quilts, poems and readings, farriers, dough rolling, dragon battles, calligraphy, songs and a plethora of cultural experiences. There is truly something for everything in her delightful photo journal.
“I took a thousand photos during Culture Days, and if each truly was worth a thousand words, it still wouldn't be enough to describe all the experiences that were available to the public. This is just a taste of our weekend as we visited two small towns, a small city and Saskatoon. We experienced planned activities and noticed random cultural acts going on wherever we turned. We traveled over five hundred kilometres and wished the weekend were longer. Culture shines brightly during the last weekend in September every year, but it also glows all year round, warming hearts and bringing people closer together every single day in this province in the tiny villages and cities, in the inner city neighbourhoods, and at the ritzy galleries.”
